LAGOS INTRODUCES FILM SHOW TO IMPACT KNOWLEDGE ON STUDENTS

With a view to keying into Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s Operation Zero Tolerance for Examination Failure in the state, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Lagos Education District I, Dr. (Mrs.) Olayinka Ayandele has introduced film show as a way of improving learning.

In a chat with our reporter, Ayandele noted that the aim was that apart from what the students would read, something like film show would also be of greater assistance. According to her, when the idea of introducing film show “was brought to my attention, I wholeheartedly keyed into that idea because I am a witness to that kind of learning methodology, because we know that whatever students see in form of film or movies, would sound in their memories.

We actually started with the Literature subject and the film among other things thought them the rudiment of understanding examinations questions. We even brought their literature teachers, who after watching the film broke them into groups for various discussions on what they have just watched and thereafter, ask and answer questions.

“Let me tell you that it actually worked for our students because the film was shown to our students two days to their examinations and we saw the impact. The students came out with good result, ” she added.

The Tutor General explained that arrangement is at advanced stage to extend the film show to other subjects like Mathematics, because according to her, “We could see that Mathematics is an everyday affair and we could see that it would pay us as a district to further extend our tentacle to other areas, hence our resolve to commence discussion with Mathematics teachers on possible way forward”, she enthused.
